Cavalaire-sur-Mer, a family seaside resort on the Var coast, is the south-western gateway to the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. Further out than the Gulf communes strictly speaking, Cavalaire offers an affordable alternative for staying close to Saint-Tropez without its price tag. We run the Cavalaire ↔ Saint-Tropez link daily in 35 minutes (via the D559 Corniche des Maures), and transfers to Toulon-Hyères Airport in under an hour. Cavalaire Bay is also an active marina: we handle crew and owner transfers from boats at anchor or at the port, to Saint-Tropez, Monaco or the airports. The coast road between Cavalaire and Saint-Tropez (via Gigaro and La Croix-Valmer) is especially popular by convertible: we also offer convertible rentals through our concierge service.
The road skirts the Maures massif
On a map, Cavalaire looks close to Saint-Tropez. In practice, allow about 35 minutes for 23 km: the road skirts the Maures massif and strings together bends through La Croix-Valmer and the Croix des Maures. It is a fine road, but not a fast one, and it saturates in July and August on the La Croix-Valmer stretch. We always build in a margin here, particularly when there is a flight to catch.
The harbour and crew transfers
Cavalaire has one of the major marinas on the Var coast, and part of our local work involves crews: changeovers, airport transfers, errands before departure, often early morning or late at night. Those are hours when transport supply in the area thins out. We operate 24/7 year-round, which settles the question of a 5am departure for a morning flight out of Toulon.
Toulon-Hyères, the natural airport
From Cavalaire the airport calculation inverts compared with Saint-Tropez: Toulon-Hyères is about 55 minutes away for 48 km, where Nice takes 2 hours for 110 km. The difference is considerable. For a stay in Cavalaire or La Croix-Valmer, targeting Toulon-Hyères when buying tickets saves over two hours of road on a return trip, and makes the drive markedly more comfortable after a flight.
