Gassin dominates the Gulf from its rocky spur, 200 metres above sea level. The medieval village, classified among France's Most Beautiful Villages, welcomes a high-end clientele to its estates and panoramic restaurants (Le Bello Visto, La Verdoyante). Access along winding roads calls for experienced drivers: ours make the trip several times a week and know the drop-off points suited to Mercedes vans. At the foot of the village, the Gassin plain shelters some of the Gulf's most confidential villas, along with wine estates such as Château de Saint-Martin. We handle airport transfers from these private properties, daily runs to Saint-Tropez and Pampelonne, and hourly chauffeur service for dinners and local events.
A hilltop village, therefore pedestrian
Gassin is listed among the Plus Beaux Villages de France, and that comes at a logistical price: the heart of the village is a maze of pedestrian lanes (including l'Androuno, reputed to be one of the narrowest in France) where no vehicle fits. So we drop off at its immediate edge, on the upper square, and collect at the same point at the agreed time. It is the only comfortable way in, especially late in the day when the panorama draws people for sunset and the few spaces are long gone.
The golf course, the estates and the ridge roads
Gassin golf course is 3 km away, a five-minute drive: a frequent early-morning run, bags included. The surrounding wine estates and the properties up on the heights are reached by narrow ridge roads where two vehicles pass with difficulty. Our drivers use them daily in season. Here too the Mercedes van beats a saloon: enough ground clearance and a high line of sight on roads with no verge.
A position between village and beaches
Gassin has the advantage of being equidistant from everything: 9 km from central Saint-Tropez, 8 km from the Pampelonne beaches, around fifteen minutes either way out of season. That is what makes it a favourite base for those wanting the calm of the high country without leaving the sea behind. Those fifteen minutes easily become thirty in August on the beach road, though. We set departures accordingly, particularly for a lunch booked at a fixed time.
